As the holiday season approaches, I've been humming…not a classic carol, but another rhyme that inspires the season:
Make new friends and keep the old,
One is silver and the other's gold.
Along with aisles of tinsel and glass ornament balls, shiny metallic blazers and pants are hanging proudly on racks this season. Fashion seasons change, and the odds of metallics hanging around year after year are a bit less than holiday decor.
As I change sizes as fast as the Colorado weather, buying a shiny object for future wear has not always been a wise investment. However, as your Sartorial Saturday Stylist, if it has the makings of a trusted fashion friend, buy the beauty! Here's the nice list:
inspires a smile!
shares your style values (in coloring)
three events or activities planned together
she has three outfit friends in your closet
fits beautifully in your budget
she will stay loyal, no matter your size, or at least 3 sizes
I hear the sounds of a season full of Sartorial Saturday topics, outfits, and fashion gal pals! Stay tuned and keep humming the new - old friends rhyme that is stuck in your head and play on repeat this mood board of visions in silver and gold.

Warmly welcome a new friend to our lunch table. Grab your agenda because we have so many fun extracurriculars planned together and we need to coordinate our outfits. All week, we wear silver.
Meet our new friend:

She is a cool girl
Not everyone looks great in silver. You need to naturally possess a cool element: blue or gray eyes, pink skin undertones, graying hair. (Any amount of graying hair will do!) This blazer is for cool color tones.
Cool girls can hang out with the warm friendly crowd
If you are totally warm and friendly, don't walk away. We can find common ground to build our friendship. There are warm silvers, and actually as many warm grays are available than cools when it comes to wool and cashmere. Mixing metals is a jewelry trend and another great way to bring silver and gold together in harmony.
Together, we have places to go and people to see
Blazers are a great friend to hang around because they feel comfortable in most situations and add the interesting characteristic of a layer to your outfit.
An attractive value before purchasing any shiny new closet object is to plan the places, events, and activities you will be wearing her to within the next three months. More than three dates? Consider her a keeper. If she doesn't make it past the first date, reconsider investing time and energy. She should feel fun and natural with your lifestyle.
MONDAY: day to night

Does anyone actually experience the need for a day to night look these days? Traveling with a carry-on is more likely than the Long Island commute.
Not only does this outfit go from office to dinner with a switch of shoes and blazers, but the texture in the sweater and wool slack add a nice contrast and warmth in both color and texture.
The office basics can give a Working Girl 80's high rise vibe! Balance and contrast the masculine gray with reps of beautiful bows: clever bag handle, jewelry, and ballet flats.
TUESDAY: date night

This outfit goes way beyond the holiday season and into date night or girls' night out any month of the year.
This beautiful, basic outfit formula is paired with formal, classic black holiday accessories for a seasonal date night, but anything from sneakers to natural leather wedges will work if you keep the bag and shoes matching.
To really pull this off, jewelry needs to stay simple, yet stand up to the bright jacket. Tennis types with lots of diamonds will work better than delicate chains. If you want to warm up this look, choose gold settings and gold hardware on the other accessories.
WEDNESDAY: errand evening

Mixing metals is a signature of the chic culture. Don't look like you are trying too hard to follow the rules of fashion, especially your seasonal color do’s and don’ts! Add some gold to the very cool silver blazer to make it work just because you love it! The key is to match the surface texture of the gold and silver friends.
You know I love wearing sweat suits to the grocery store! Join the revolution in our just-for-fun facebook group before you head out on your weekend errand run.
THURSDAY: theater

Shoulder the silver blazer over a bright dress of a brilliant color. Keep the color column from neck to toe with a tonal shoe, but try this look with any color that brings out your best. For a night on your feet, slip a sneaker under the maxi dress in monochrome or metal (it is a fun trend in wedding wear).
FRIDAY: live music

You don’t need a stylist to put a rock ‘n roll ensemble like this one together! You just need a playlist and a step in your style! Go Your Own Way!
With your new and old friends and full outfit day-planner, make time for good times.
