Accessories can max out a an outfit budget quickly! At one time in my style journey, I only owned a couple pair of earrings and one necklace because I spent all my budget on designing and curating articles of clothing! I was a designing and sewing machine whipping out ensembles minutes before the event or engagement, with no time to think about the finishing touches of accessories. Half the time, the hem wasn't even finished!
As soon as I slowed down from designer mentality, I began to crave the creativity of getting dressed for a regular day at the office. My careful new capsule resulted in drab monotone pairings and serious fashion FOMO.
Cue in accessorizing, or soon to be known in my closet as EXCESSORIZING.
Start with a Beautiful but Basic Outfit
Today we are studying the power of accessories in creating an expressive outfit. Our starting place is literally the cream canvas of a linen jumpsuit. Although some one-pieces can be a bit boxy, they all create a clean vision of a beautiful body with monochrome head to toe.
Almost any top + bottom will create your basic outfit. Favorites include a t-shirt (or knit top) plus a bottom (jeans, slacks, joggers). Mix and match, but keep it simple. Keep it comfortable and suited to you.
Experiment with a General Style Personality to find your YOUnique Look
Personal style is all about your unique and creative combination of clothing, accessories, color, texture, shape, hair and makeup, and more. Its the way you walk, smell, and smile. It is all about YOU, and expressing your best personal qualities.
Rarely do we meet a woman who belongs 100% to one of five style personalities, but the concept of choices that belong to these groups is a great place to start when developing your own WOW look, and ultimately choosing only those pieces that you LOVE to wear.
There are quite a few places to go and people to meet to try on various personality styles. Grab a coffee or tea and scroll these portfolios on Pinterest. If you are more of a reader, open the pages of this blog post.
Look at each ensemble through the eyes of a style archetype, and sense if it sparks light within you. See how these 5 accessorized outfits show style personalities.
